Dehydration, heat stroke, fainting, and sunburn are regular hazards. As well as regular water intake (little and often), staying covered with lightweight loose clothing is vital. Some form of head-dress is important to reduce exposure to the sun and drying winds. Improvised gaiters or puttees help keep abrasive sand out of boots.
Be aware though, it is important to cater for the extreme range of temperatures between cold nights and hot days. Also allow for strong wind chill, which increases the risk of hypothermia. Consider protection for the eyes against sun and sand. Staying covered also helps against insect attack.
