Cold, wet and mountain environments
The fundamental principles behind cold weather survival are: stay clean; avoid overheating; use loose and layered clothing; and remain dry close to the skin. You don't have to be in the arctic to be vulnerable. Without appropriate clothing hypothermia, frostbite, heart and circulation problems, and trench foot are real dangers. In 1982 14% of British casualties in the Falklands were due to trench foot. And don't think only soldiers get it. Even low intensity cold can reduce sensation, reduce reaction times and hamper dexterity. Where it's feasible, tie gloves and mittens to upper body clothing. Losing them could prove serious.
